North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's teenage daughter, Kim Ju-ae (approximately 13 years old), made her first known visit to the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun in Pyongyang on January 1, 2026. The mausoleum houses the embalmed bodies of her grandfather, Kim Jong-il, and great-grandfather, Kim Il-sung. State media images showed her bowing with her parents at the sacred site, a move experts say solidifies her status as her father's potential heir. Since first appearing in state media in November 2022, Kim Ju-ae has accompanied her father at military parades, missile launches, and a September 2025 trip to Beijing. South Korea's National Intelligence Service has previously identified her as Kim Jong-un's likely successor, though some experts remain skeptical due to the male-dominated power structure and Kim Jong-un's relatively young age of 41.
