Hampshire Police charged Samara Jay Glover, 27, of Newport, with murder after the fatal death of one‑year‑old Jayla‑Jean Mclaren on the Isle of Wight. Mclaren was taken to hospital with serious injuries on 1 August and died on 3 August. Glover remains in custody. A 31‑year‑old man from Newport was earlier arrested on suspicion of murder, causing or allowing the death of a child and assault‑related offences; he was released on conditional bail until 27 April 2026. Detective Chief Inspector Gemma Hunter said the case is “incredibly concerning and upsetting.” The investigation continues, with police pledging further updates.
