Is he India's answer to Bruce Lee?
Vasan Bala's martial arts film 'Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota' wins Toronto award but India lacks foundation for global action stars.

Vasan Bala's second feature film 'Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota' (The Man Who Feels No Pain) won the People's Choice Award at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival's Midnight Madness section, making it the first Indian film to win this popular award. The film stars Abhimanyu Dasani as Surya, a young man with Congenital Insensitivity to Pain, alongside Radhika Madan and Gulshan Devaiah. Bala, who previously directed the unreleased 2012 Cannes premiere 'Peddlers', told Rediff.com's Aseem Chhabra in Toronto that India lacks the foundation to create international martial arts stars like Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan, noting that actors like Abhimanyu Dasani had to train for six to eight months despite having some martial arts background, while Radhika Madan had none. The film uses slow motion sequences to represent the protagonist's hyper-realistic perception of the world.
