On Saturday, Jan. 5, 2026, 13‑year‑old Drew Nickerson was mauled by three large‑breed dogs—a Rottweiler and two Cane Corsos—while biking on Upper Sandy Cove Road, about 12 km north of Shelburne. He was air‑lifted to a Halifax hospital and died Monday. The Nova Scotia RCMP are collecting video footage, canvassing the area and interviewing witnesses; the dogs were later euthanised. The community of Shelburne County (≈13,000 residents) has rallied, raising nearly $50,000 from 800 donors and 80 donated items for the family. The investigation remains ongoing, with no charges announced yet.
