ICE Agent Kills Minneapolis Woman, Sparks Investigation

On Wednesday, January 5 2026, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent fired three shots into the side of a Honda Pilot SUV, killing 37‑year‑old Renee Nicole Good inside the vehicle in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The agent claimed self‑defence, a claim rebuffed by Mayor Jacob Frey, who called the shooting reckless and unnecessary. Governor Tim Walz blamed the Trump administration’s “recklessness” for the death, while President Donald Trump said the victim was “obstructing and resisting.” A joint investigation by the FBI and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is underway. The incident drew a crowd of about 200 protesters and occurred less than two kilometres from the site of the 2020 George Floyd police killing. The shooting is part of a broader immigration crackdown that saw roughly 2,000 ICE and CBP agents deployed in Minneapolis and St. Paul, with 1,500 arrests reported by Secretary Kristi Noem.
