'I don't believe he took his life': Family's fight over Nicaraguan migrant's ICE death

Victor Manuel Diaz, a Nicaraguan migrant, died on Jan. 14 2026 at ICE’s Camp East Montana in El Paso, Texas. DHS released a statement labeling the death a presumed suicide, yet the family insists Diaz did not take his own life. He is the third detainee to die since the facility opened last year; the earlier case, Geraldo Lunas Campos, was ruled a homicide on Jan. 3 2026. A local medical examiner has not performed an autopsy, and the body was transported to William Beaumont Army Medical Center at Fort Bliss. Attorney Randall Kallinen is seeking an independent investigation and a sworn autopsy to clarify circumstances. The family remains demanding full answers.
