Hootsuite CEO Responds to DHS Contract Backlash

Vancouver‑based tech company Hootsuite faced backlash after a Jan 28 2026 statement by CEO Irina Novoselsky defended a new $2.8 million social‑media contract with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s ICE, effective from August 2024. The agreement, routed through Seneca Strategic Partners—an entity wholly owned by the Seneca Nation of Indians—provides platform management and support services. Novoselsky insists the use‑case does not include individual tracking or surveillance, countering accusations that Hootsuite tools facilitate data collection. The company has served governments worldwide for more than 15 years, but a prior ICE contract ended in 2020 following public outcry. Protests by Democracy Rising are planned outside Hootsuite’s Vancouver headquarters.
