GTA Faces 60‑cm Snowstorm: Transit, Flights, City Services Hit
Heavy snow threatens 60 cm drop across the GTA, halting TTC routes, canceling over half of Pearson flights, and forcing city services to halt.

On Jan 25, 2026 Environment Canada warned of a severe orange weather alert as snow could reach 60 cm in southern Etobicoke and Mississauga, with peak rates of 5‑8 cm per hour. By 2 p.m. 18 cm had fallen, adding to the 105 cm Toronto already recorded this winter. The City of Toronto declared a significant weather event, activating its snow‑event plan, and cut 48 TTC bus stops, paused Line 2 between Kipling and Islington, and halted Line 1 between Lawrence and St Clair. Pearson International Airport canceled 60 % of departing and 62 % of arriving flights; Billy Bishop Airport cancelled 45 flights total. Municipal services closed libraries, schools and outdoor rinks, and Mississauga imposed a street‑parking ban at 2 p.m. Brampton libraries shut, while Vaughan called on residents to clear blocked basins.
