Grok Image Editing Limited to Paid Users – UK Response
X limits Grok’s image editing to paying subscribers amid child‑abuse concerns.

On 9 January 2026, Downing Street announced that X’s AI chatbot Grok would restrict image‑editing to paying subscribers after the Internet Watch Foundation warned that criminals had used the tool to create child sexual‑abuse imagery of children aged 11‑13. The chatbot now displays the message, "Image generation and editing are currently limited to paying subscribers," when users request edits. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer called the move "insulting" and "disgraceful," while Elon Musk urged users to update to a new Grok version. Ofcom said it had made urgent contact with X following the IWF report.
