'Gnarly' ski jump over canal locks prompts warnings to would‑be copycats
Parks Canada warns against unauthorized ski jumps after a viral video shows a stuntman barely clear the Rideau Canal locks.

A 21‑year‑old stuntman, Tai How, filmed a risky jump over the 9.7‑metre gap between Ottawa Locks on the Rideau Canal in February 2025 and posted a 22‑minute video on YouTube on Christmas Eve. The clip, which shows How launching from a snow ramp and landing hard on the opposite edge, went viral and prompted Parks Canada to issue a public safety notice on January 6 2026. The department warned that the Rideau Canal National Historic Site is not a place for unauthorized activities, that enforcement has been increased and fines for violations could reach $10,000. Ottawa Paramedics also warned of serious injuries that could arise from similar attempts.
