Gaza Journalists Killed in Israeli Airstrike – 3 Deaths
Three freelance reporters shot dead in Gaza airstrike, raising fears Israel is targeting journalists during a fragile ceasefire.

On Jan 21 2026 an Israeli airstrike targeted a vehicle carrying three freelance photojournalists – Anas Ghneim (25), Abdul Raouf Sha’at (34) and Mohammed Salah Qashta (36) – in central Gaza while they documented displacement camps with the Egyptian Relief Committee. The strike turned the car into a twisted wreck, killing all three. The event follows a ceasefire signed with Hamas in October 2023 that has not stopped airstrikes. To date the Reporters Without Borders has documented over 220 Palestinian journalists killed by Israeli fire and the Committee to Protect Journalists calls Gaza “the deadliest place for journalists”. Israeli officials claim the trio operated a drone linked to Hamas, a claim denied by their families.
