Former Spurs striker Martin Chivers, 80, passes away after a celebrated career.

Martin Chivers, the former Tottenham Hotspur striker, died on 7 January 2026 at the age of 80. The 1.83‑metre forward appeared in more than 400 games for Spurs, scoring 174 goals, and was a key figure in the club’s 1970s dominance, winning two League Cups and the 1971 UEFA Cup. He earned 24 caps for England, netting 13 goals, with his final appearance a 1‑1 draw with Poland at Wembley. Chivers began his career at Southampton, helping them gain promotion in 1966, before moving to Tottenham in January 1968 for a then‑British record fee of £125,000. After leaving Spurs he played for Servette, Norwich, Brighton, Dorchester, Vard and Barnet, later running a hotel in Hertfordshire and working with BBC Radio.
