Former Tory councillor Edward Brandt jailed 20 weeks for stalking former cabinet minister Penny Mordaunt.

Edward Brandt, 61, a former Tory councillor for East Hampshire District Council, was sentenced to 20 weeks in jail after being found guilty of stalking ex‑Cabinet minister Dame Penny Mordaunt. He sent 17 emails, three phone messages, and appeared at Dame Penny’s Portsmouth constituency office between 11 September 2023 and 12 May 2024. Brandt lived on the Isle of Wight and breached a conditional caution issued in April 2024, which required him to complete a victim awareness course and avoid contact with Mordaunt. He was also guilty of seven breaches of a stalking protection order in December 2025, resulting in an additional eight consecutive weeks. The protection order remains in force until November 2034.
