Father and son dress as Santa, visit Gaza tent city with gifts, music to celebrate New Year
Izzat Al-Qawasmeh and 11-year-old son Mohamed dressed as Santa, played saxophone and handed out balloons to children in Gaza City's tent city.

On December 30, 2025, Izzat Al-Qawasmeh and his 11-year-old son Mohamed dressed as Santa Claus and visited a tent city in northern Gaza City to spread holiday cheer. They played saxophone, distributed balloons and brought music to children living in tents near Al-Maqousi Towers, a once-bustling neighborhood now reduced to rubble by the ongoing conflict. Al-Qawasmeh, a professional saxophonist for 20 years, hoped the gesture would bring hope to war-weary residents. The visit occurred amid ongoing humanitarian challenges in Gaza, where over 300 Palestinians have been killed since the October 10 ceasefire, and aid deliveries remain far below promised levels. The area around Al-Maqousi Towers, which once housed thousands, now hosts displaced families in tents.
