Fake passports, $65M US and an Interpol Red Notice: Canadian crypto fugitive vanishes after arrest in Serbia
Canadian crypto hacker Andean Medjedovic, wanted for $65M theft, was arrested in Serbia after using fake passports.

Andean Medjedovic, a 21‑year‑old Canadian from Hamilton who earned a master’s in pure mathematics at 18, was accused of stealing $65 million from two cryptocurrency firms – $16.5 million from Indexed Finance and $48 million from KyberSwap – in 2021‑23. He vanished from Canada in late 2021, traveling through Brazil, Dubai, Spain, Bosnia and the Netherlands while using forged Slovak, Bosnian and other passports. A European arrest warrant was issued on Dec. 11 2023. He was finally apprehended on Aug. 9 2024 in Belgrade, Serbia, and brought before the Belgrade Higher Court. The U.S. Department of Justice filed an indictment in Jan 2025, and Dutch authorities requested extradition, but the Belgrade court denied it citing insufficient evidence. After 105 days in custody he was released, and officials now believe he is at large in Bosnia.
