Former Australian cricketer Damien Martyn, 54, has been placed in an induced coma after contracting meningitis on Boxing Day (December 26, 2025). Cricket Australia confirmed the 67-Test veteran became unwell and is being treated at a Brisbane hospital. Martyn, who played between 1992 and 2006 and won two World Cups, received well-wishes from former teammates including Adam Gilchrist and Darren Lehmann. Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg stated the organization is saddened by the news and sending best wishes. Martyn had posted on social media on December 24, 2025, looking forward to the Boxing Day Test at the MCG. His friend Brad Hardie revealed the seriousness of his condition on Perth radio station 6PR, urging listeners to send positive thoughts.
