Equity Gains AI Protection Offer After Ballot
Equity secured a better AI‑protection deal after 99% vote to refuse digital scanning, threatening strike.

On 21 January 2026, UK actors’ union Equity announced a new AI‑protection offer from Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television (PACT) after a ballot in which 99 % of the 7,000‑plus members voted to refuse digital scanning on set. The deal, delivered by Monday 20 January, includes revised wording on AI use that Equity claims is an improvement, but the union says it remains unfinished. General‑secretary Paul W. Fleming warned that if the proposal falls short, a statutory ballot could lead to industrial action on upcoming productions. The vote, which saw 75 % turnout, was triggered by fears that performers’ likenesses, voices and recordings could be captured and exploited without consent.
