Energy bills: Thousands of Britons set to receive £150 free energy payment this month
Thousands in Britain will get £150 to offset winter energy costs.

UK households qualify for a £150 free energy payment designed to cushion winter energy costs. According to GB News on 12 January 2026, thousands of consumers will receive the amount by the end of the month. The scheme, promoted by the government and available through energy suppliers such as Utilita, targets low‑income families and those on the temperature‑based energy payment scheme. Eligibility requires customers to be on the Winter Fuel Payment list or to have paid recently for heating. The £150 is paid directly into the customer’s account and is intended to cover part of heating bills during the cold season. The initiative aims to reduce financial strain for vulnerable households amid rising energy prices.
