Early January Polls Show Labor Slipping, One Nation Rising
Labor's two‑party lead falls to 52‑53%, One Nation climbs, polls split on Coalition.

Three national polls conducted Jan 5‑6 2026 show Labor’s two‑party preferred support falling to 52‑53 % from about 55 % before the Anika Wells expenses scandal and the Bondi terror incident. The Morgan, Fox & Hedgehog and DemosAU surveys give differing primary‑vote figures: Morgan reports 30.5 % Coalition, 30 % Labour; Fox & Hedgehog shows 29 % Labour, 25 % Coalition, 21 % One Nation; DemosAU gives 29 % Labour, 23 % Coalition, 23 % One Nation. One Nation’s poll numbers have risen by up to 6 % since October, narrowing the gap with the Coalition on preference flows. The polls also highlight declining approval ratings for Labor leaders Albanese and Ley, amid calls for a royal commission into Bondi and calls to pause non‑tourist migration.
