Swiss authorities reported that "several" dozen people were killed and about 100 others injured in a fire that broke out at Le Constellation bar in the Alpine resort town of Crans-Montana on January 1, 2026. The blaze started at approximately 1:30 a.m. local time, and the cause remains under investigation. The Cantonal Police of Valais confirmed they were not treating it as an attack. A major emergency response involving police, firefighters, and rescue personnel was deployed to the scene. A no-fly zone was established over the area, and the town remained closed to the public during the investigation. Officials said it was likely some of the victims were tourists who had traveled to celebrate New Year's Eve. The resort sits in Switzerland’s southern Sierre District in the Canton of Valais.
