Dogecoin jumps after Elon Musk replaces Twitter bird with Shiba Inu
Twitter's bird logo replaced with Shiba Inu dog, sending dogecoin price up 20% to about 9 cents.

Dogecoin surged more than 20% to about 9 cents on April 3, 2023, after Elon Musk replaced Twitter's iconic bird logo with an image of a Shiba Inu dog. The change came two days after Musk asked a judge to dismiss a $258 billion racketeering lawsuit accusing him of running a pyramid scheme to support dogecoin. Musk, who has frequently promoted the cryptocurrency on social media, tweeted 'as promised' alongside an image of a year-old conversation where a user suggested he 'buy Twitter' and change the bird logo to a doge. Dogecoin was created on December 6, 2013, by software engineers as a joke, using a Shiba Inu as its mascot. The price spike occurred despite the lawsuit alleging Musk's 'innocuous and often silly tweets' about dogecoin.
