On Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, a family dog chewed a heated ski glove in a two‑storey home on Bevington Walk, Orléans, Ottawa. The glove’s lithium‑ion battery ignited, sending smoke and flames through a ground‑floor window. Ottawa Fire Services were alerted by a monitoring company and arrived within four minutes. Firefighters used a hose, entered the front door, rescued the uninjured dog, and controlled the blaze in about ten minutes. An adult and a child were displaced. Fire Services spokesperson Nick DeFazio highlighted the rarity of such a fire and urged safe storage of lithium‑ion devices.
