Canadian comedian and actress Catherine O'Hara dies at 71 on Jan 30, 2026

Catherine Anne O'Hara, born March 4, 1954 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, passed away on January 30, 2026, at age 71. The outspoken comedian and actress was best known for her work in Tim Burton’s 1988 film Beetlejuice, playing the overdramatic Delia, and as Kate McCallister in the 1990 holiday classic Home Alone. She achieved Emmy‑winning success as Moira Rose on the Canadian sitcom Schitt’s Creek (2015‑2019), earning a Primetime Emmy in 2020 and a Golden Globe in 2021. Throughout her career she appeared in over a hundred roles, including Best in Show (2000), 30 Rock, and the 2025 HBO series The Last of Us. Late‑night LAFD dispatches reported a medical call at 4:48 a.m. that same day, but cause of death remains undisclosed. O'Hara is survived by husband Bo Welch and sons Matthew and Luke.
