Catherine O’Hara, the celebrated Canadian comic who rose to fame on SCTV and became a beloved figure on Schitt’s Creek, died on Jan. 30 2026 at age 71 after a brief illness. The Toronto‑born actor’s 50‑year career spanned television, film and live improv, with landmark roles in Beetlejuice, Home Alone and a string of Christopher Guest mockumentaries. She earned an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (2019), a Golden Globe, a SAG Award, six Canadian Screen Awards, and was named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2018. Tributes poured in from peers—Eugene Levy, Dan Levy—and Canadian leaders Justin Trudeau and Mark Carney. She is survived by husband Bo Welch and their two sons.
