Canadians drink more post‑pandemic, CAMH says
CAMH survey shows daily and binge drinking among Canadians rose, heightening health risks.

A 2026 Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) monitor surveyed more than 3,000 Ontario adults, revealing that 76 % of legal‑age drinkers had an alcoholic beverage in the past 12 months, a decline from the pandemic‑peak of 80.4 % in 2020–22. Still, daily drinking rose 3 % in 2025 versus 2019, and binge drinking (≥5 drinks once weekly) increased 3.6 %. Men were more likely to drink daily (9.8 %) and binge (13.7 %) than women (5.6 % and 5.8 %). The report highlights higher intake volumes, stressing health risks including liver disease and mental‑health impacts, and calls for reduced availability and increased physical‑activity alternatives.
