Canada Warns of FIFA Visa Fraud on Social Media

By mid‑January 2026 CBC News reported a spike of TikTok and Instagram videos from India, Pakistan and Canada falsely claiming that visitors to Canada for the 2026 FIFA World Cup could work, settle permanently or obtain a special visa. Immigration experts, including Calgary’s Mandeep Lidher, say these claims are misrepresentations of a narrow 2025 IRCC policy that only exempts FIFA‑appointed staff, not generic visitors. The videos also marketed a bogus visa package for 150,000 rupees (≈$2,220 CAD). The Canada‑hosted tournament runs June 11‑July 19, 2026, with matches in Toronto, Vancouver and 14 U.S./Mexico cities, prompting the IRCC to issue a public warning that the “special” visitor visa does not exist and border officers retain entry authority. The Canadian Anti‑Fraud Centre urges reporting scams to stop fraudsters.
