Canada Likely to Keep Vaccine Schedule Amid US Changes
Canadian experts say the country will not follow the US CDC’s recent vaccine schedule revision.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced a January 2026 revision that cut the number of universally recommended childhood vaccines from 17 to 11. Canadian public‑health experts, including Alberta pediatrician Dr. Cora Constantinescu and Quebec’s Dr. Caroline Quach‑Thanh, say Canada will not mirror the change because local needs, budgets and available resources are distinct. The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) issues Canada’s guidance, but provinces decide on adoption. For example, Nova Scotia added Men‑B vaccines after a 2022 meningitis outbreak at Dalhousie University, illustrating how regional data can alter schedules. Meanwhile, the U.S. removed universal hepatitis‑B vaccination for infants in December 2025, a move critics say lacks scientific consensus.
