CAMI Ingersoll Plant Could Shift to Military Production
Union head says GM may retool Ingersoll plant for military vehicles.

Ingersoll, Ontario’s General Motors CAMI Assembly plant has been idle since April 2025 after GM halted production of the BrightDrop electric delivery vehicle. The 1,200‑person workforce remains suspended, and the facility’s future is uncertain. Unifor Local 88 chair Mike Van Boekel told CBC’s London Morning that GM and the federal government are exploring a military‑vehicle contract as one option to revive the plant. The proposal follows a 2022 investment of more than $500 million from federal and provincial governments to shift the plant to electric vehicle production. While details are scarce, the move could bring a few hundred jobs back and keep the plant operational in the long term.
