Cabinet Minister Pushes for Lord Mandelson to Apologise for Epstein Ties

On 11 January 2026 Sky News reported that Business Secretary Peter Kyle called on anyone linked to Jeffrey Epstein to apologise after former U.S. ambassador Peter Mandelson refused to do so in a BBC interview. Mandelson, who was sacked as UK ambassador to Washington in September 2025 following emails that showed him publicly supporting Epstein, stated he paid a "calamitous" price for the 25‑year friendship. He said he was unaware of Epstein’s crimes when the financier pleaded guilty to soliciting prostitution in 2008, and pleaded 18 months in Florida prison. Mandelson added that he would apologise only for the systemic failure that left women unprotected. Kyle and Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander emphasised that the apology was essential for victims’ dignity.
