Rescue teams were alerted; a 52‑person team—including medics, ski instructors and a helicopter‑deployed piste dog—searched for 50 minutes before finding the skier buried under 2.5 m of snow. He was not wearing an avalanche transceiver and had no professional instructor, according to the resort. The resort sent condolences to the victim’s family. The incident underscores the dangers of off‑piste skiing in the French Alps.
