Britannica Pulls Map That Replaces Israel with Palestine
Britannica removes a map depicting Israel as Palestine from its Kids website.

On 1 February 2026, Encyclopedia Britannica removed an educational map from its Britannica Kids website that had depicted the entire territory of Israel as ‘Palestine’. The map, which had been available since at least early 2024, was initially spotlighted in November 2024 by former New Zealand MP Shari Black in a critique of presumed inaccuracies. Britannica stated the decision was made after receiving “concerns about the portrayal of current political boundaries.” The map was featured on the site’s homepage, and its removal was announced via a press release and an update to the Kids’ platform. The action has reignited debate over biased content on educational resources.
