On 25 January 2026, Devon and Cornwall Police reported that the body of 64‑year‑old Matthew Upham, a resident of Budleigh Salterton, was found at Exmouth Beach in Devon. Upham vanished into the water on Christmas Day (25 December 2025) while swimming off Budleigh Salterton Beach. A body was spotted by witnesses at 3 pm on the same day in the Exmouth area and was later confirmed by police as Upham’s. The investigation still lacks formal identification, but family members were notified. The case comes as a second body, that of a 47‑year‑old man also missing from Budleigh Salterton, was believed to have been found on a Wednesday. Both men’s fates remain a tragic reminder of the dangers of coastal waters.
