Becky Hamber Testifies She Was Unprepared for High‑Needs Boy
Hamber says she didn’t anticipate the 12‑year‑old boy’s severe needs in the trial.

Becky Hamber, 46, testified on Jan 12 2026 in Milton Superior Court that she and her wife Brandy Cooney, both from Burlington, Ontario, did not know 12‑year‑old L.L. had severe behavioural problems before he and his 13‑year‑old brother J.L. moved in. Hamber said she and Cooney struggled to care for the boys’ high‑needs, citing limited support from the Children’s Aid Society and a monthly child‑care stipend of $2,070. The trial, which began mid‑September 2025 and resumed after the holidays, now alleges that the couple confined and restrained the boys—using zip ties and lock‑up rooms—and failed to feed them properly. L.L. died on Dec 21 2022 after falling in the basement; the Crown claims the women “hated” the children over five years.
