As Iranians bury their dead, many are waiting for Trump's next move
Iranian mourners await hope as protests engulf the country amid U.S. threats.

The protests that began on Dec. 28, 2025, over Iran’s deepening economic crisis and the rial’s fall to a record low, have spiraled into nationwide unrest. More than 2,000 Iranians have died, with HRANA reporting 2,500 fatalities and thousands arrested. Almost all 90 million citizens are cut off from the internet, though some use forbidden satellite links like Starlink, banned in June after the Israel‑Iran conflict. Trump has threatened to intervene against the regime’s violence, encouraging protesters to continue. Reporters reached three Iranians via Telegram who described gunfire, tear gas and the ongoing search for international support. Nationwide funerals of security forces are held as the uprising continues.
