On January 4, 2026, heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua shared his first public update since a deadly car crash in Nigeria on December 29, 2025. The crash occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Sagamu, about 30 miles from Lagos, when Joshua's black SUV struck a stationary truck at midday local time. The collision killed his close friends Latif Ayodele, 44, a personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, 46, a sports rehabilitator who had been part of Joshua's team for over a decade. Joshua, 36, was injured but survived. The driver faces four charges including dangerous driving causing death. Funerals for Ayodele and Ghami were held at a London mosque on Sunday, January 4. Joshua posted an Instagram photo with his mother and family members of his friends, captioning it 'My Brothers Keeper,' sparking hundreds of condolence messages. The trio had been on holiday in Nigeria following Joshua's December victory over Jake Paul in Miami.
