Andrew Stetson Turns Family Archive into 16‑Episode Podcast
A P.E.I. podcast project becomes a journey of personal and family discovery.

In January 2026, astronomer‑writer Andrew Stetson, a 25‑year‑old Charlottetown resident, launched The Freetown Files, a 16‑episode podcast that traces his Heffel‑Stetson family line back to the Scales Hydro Electric Plant in South Freetown, P.E.I. The project began when Stetson’s grandfather died in August 2023; the funeral triggered a wish to record his mother’s stories. Hazel Stetson, who turns 93 in 2025, finally consented after two years. Episodes include an oral history of a 1964 car crash that killed Stetson’s great‑grandfather and his family. Interviews with relatives in Ottawa and Charlottetown reveal the family’s ties to the island’s early electricity industry and personal traits that echo through generations.
