Aberdeen Fan Sentenced to 18‑Month Jail After Throwing Seat on Jack MacKenzie

David Gowans, 32, an Aberdeen ultras supporter, hurled a section of a seat onto the pitch at Tannadice Park on 17 May 2025 after Aberdeen’s 2‑1 defeat to Dundee United. The projectile struck 25‑year‑old Jack MacKenzie in the face, leaving a 2‑inch laceration over his left eyebrow and a 5 cm abrasion below his eye. MacKenzie was taken off in a wheelchair and later treated for his injuries. CCTV footage showed MacKenzie lying on the pitch, receiving immediate medical treatment. Gowans pleaded guilty to culpable and reckless conduct at Dundee Sheriff Court in October and was sentenced Monday 12 January 2026 to 18 months imprisonment, a lifetime ban from Aberdeen and a 10‑year football‑match ban.
