ABC News Exclusive: Former Uvalde officer Adrian Gonzales speaks out after acquittal
Former Uvalde officer Adrian Gonzales, acquitted of child‑endangerment charges, says he was scapegoated.

Former Uvalde school police officer Adrian Gonzales (52) was acquitted Jan. 21, 2026 of all 29 child‑endangerment counts after the Nov. 8, 2022 Robb Elementary shooting that killed 21 people, including 19 children. 400 officers responded, but it took 77 minutes for the first responders to enter the building. Gonzales was one of the first five officers to attempt a counter‑attack and argues he followed orders from his chief. The two‑week trial ended after a seven‑hour jury deliberation. Families remain frustrated, while Gonzales claims prosecutors scapegoated him and urges focus on training and protocols. He has relocated with his family and feels like a pariah in Uvalde.
