On Jan. 1, 2026, a woman in her 90s was found outside the private seniors’ residence Domaine Lac‑au‑Saumon in Lac‑au‑Saumon, Quebec’s Lower Saint‑Lawrence region. She was discovered at 8:00 a.m. in critical condition; emergency personnel attempted resuscitation, but she later died at a hospital. Police are investigating the circumstances and will conduct an autopsy. Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Marythé Bolduc said all possibilities are being considered. The residence’s director, France Lepage, who has led the facility for 28 years, noted the woman had lived in the autonomous wing for almost two years and that the building has state‑of‑the‑art security, including bracelets for residents at risk of wandering. Surveillance footage has been provided to authorities.
