A $400,000 (£295,000) shipment of non-live lobster was stolen in December 2025 while being transported by Rexing Companies from Taunton, Massachusetts, to Costco wholesale locations in Illinois and Minnesota. Dylan Rexing, president and CEO of the Indiana-based logistics firm, said the theft followed a pattern of organized crime involving impersonation of legitimate carriers using spoofed emails and burner phones. The FBI is investigating the incident, which Rexing described as a significant loss that drives up supply chain costs for consumers. Costco has not yet commented on the theft.
