39 Killed in Spain Train Collision – ABC News

On Sunday night, Jan. 19, 2026, a high-speed collision near Adamuz in Córdoba, Spain, killed 39 people and injured 152. An Iryo train bound from Málaga to Madrid derailed, crossed over to the adjacent track and struck a Madrid‑to‑Huelva train travelling the opposite direction. Rescue crews found 75 injured, 15 in serious condition, and five life‑threatening. The 300‑passenger Iryo train had recently been refurbished, with track work finished in May. Spanish transport minister Oscar Puente said the incident was “extremely strange” and called for an investigation. All Madrid‑to‑Andalusia services are suspended while authorities probe the cause. Officials have not yet disclosed the cause, and the Prime Minister is expected to visit the site.
