27‑Month Sentence for Quebec Woman Who Boiled Child
A Quebec woman was sentenced to 27 months for throwing boiling water on a child.

On Oct. 2, 2024 in Longueuil, Quebec, 47‑year‑old Stéphanie Borel hurled scalding water at a 10‑year‑old boy who had been walking home from school. The boy suffered second‑degree burns covering roughly 4 % of his body, including the face, chest and shoulder blade. Borel pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in September 2025 and, on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2026, Judge Marc Antoine Carette imposed a 27‑month prison sentence at the Longueuil courthouse, in line with a joint Crown‑defence recommendation. Aggravating factors cited included the victim’s age, risk of re‑offending and the boy’s lifelong trauma; mitigating factors noted a guilty plea and ongoing psychological treatment. The boy’s identity is protected by a publication ban.
