$1bn Pay‑In for Gaza Peace Board: Trump Plan

On 18 January 2026 Sky News reported that President Donald Trump’s White House is offering participating states a $1 billion (£747 million) bid to retain a seat on a new Gaza peace board beyond its initial three‑year term. The board, unveiled on a Friday last week, would be chaired by Trump and include 11 members, such as Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and former U.N. envoy Nickolay Mladenov, alongside U.S. figures Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the U.S. had not coordinated the board’s structure with Israeli officials, a stance echoed by Foreign Minister Gideon Saar. The initiative follows the ceasefire that took effect in October 2025 and the violent escalation that began in October 2023.
